Chippa United executive director Lukanyo Mzinzi believes that the Buffalo City Stadium is ready to host professional football and will pass the Premier Soccer League (PSL) test so that the Chilli Boys can return to the East London venue more than six years since they played their last match there.

The venue, which was used during the 1995 Rugby World Cup tournament, has undergone some renovations and has seen major improvements since early last year.

The Chilli Boys moved out of the venue and went to play some of their home matches at the Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane during the 2016/17 season. Unfortunately, the Mdantsane venue failed the PSL test before the beginning of this season and is only now used for amateur football.

“We are waiting for the PSL to come and inspect the stadium. We are going to get a date of their visit in the next few days,” Mzinzi said.

The Kariega-born football administrator added that the Chilli Boys will only return to Sisa Dukashe Stadium once the PSL had declared the venue suitable for professional football.

“A lot of work needs to be done at Sisa Dukashe Stadium because it is not safe now. The grandstand needs to be fixed before we could even think of going to play there again,” Mzinzi remarked.
