Banyana Banyana arrived safely in Türkiye on Wednesday ahead of their first match in the Turkish Women’s Cup.
The African Women’s Cup of Nations champions travelled to Türkiye amid uncertainty following a deadly earthquake that hit that country recently.
“We have arrived in Türkiye. We are extremely excited. We are looking forward to the games ahead,” Banyana goalkeeper and co-captain Andile Dlamini said.
Banyana are using the Turkish Women’s Cup to prepare for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament, which is going to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand later this year.
“These games are preparing us for the World Cup. We are just looking at doing our best. We are happy to be here,” Dlamini said.
Meanwhile, coach Desiree Ellis’ team face Uzbekistan in their opening match of the tournament on Saturday.
