Komani-born boxer Sabelo Ngebiyana became a victim of fight supervisor Yahya Poli’s wrongful action after he was declared the loser against Tanzanian Tony Rashid despite winning the clash on two scorecards at the Kilimanjaro Hall in Ubungo Plaza, Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, on Friday evening.
However, sanity has since prevailed as the president of the African Boxing Union (ABU) Houcine Houichi changed the outcome of the fight in favour of Ngebiyana.
The former South African junior-bantamweight titlist is now the new ABU junior-featherweight champion having won 115-113 on both South Africa’s Mfundo Mvandaba and Tanzanian John Chagu’s scorecards while Lynette Onam from Kenya had Rashid winning by 115-113.
In a statement, Houchi said: “I’m very disappointed with the supervisor for his unprofessional conduct, we believe in honesty, so to ABU Sabelo is the champion.”
