Sada-born boxer Landile ‘Man Down’ Ngxeke came good and atoned for losing to Filipino opponent Jayr Raquinel at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) in October last year.

Ngxeke overcame Michael Mendoza from the Philippines to win the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening.

Even though it was not a superb performance from Ngxeke, it was, however, good that he won following the crushing defeat by Raquinel, who stopped him in the second round when they fought for the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Intercontinental junior-bantamweight title last year.

Meanwhile, Mpumelelo Tshabalala showed why he’s highly rated as he stopped challenger Athenkosi Thongwana in the sixth round to retain his South African junior-flyweight title in the main supporting bout.

Tshabalala from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni took the fight to Thongwana from the first gong landing bomb after bomb in what looked like was an effort to make sure that the bout ended early.

Following an onslaught, Tshabalala decked Thongwana from Duncan Village in the second round. He decked him again in the sixth round following a straight right and that forced fight referee Allen Matakane to intervene on behalf of Thongwana.
