Kaizer Chiefs defeated a 10-man Stellenbosch FC 2-1 in a DStv Premiership match played at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, on Saturday evening.
Amakhosi opened the scoring through Ashley du Preez, who converted a penalty in the 11th minute. The penalty came after Du Preez was fouled inside the box by Stellies defender Olwethu Makhanya.
Five minutes later, Stellies were reduced to 10 men when their goalkeeper Sage Stephens was red carded after he handled the ball outside his box following a well-timed run by Keagan Dolly.
Nine minutes after Stephens was red carded Amakhosi doubled their lead when Dolly beat Lee Langeveldt with a low shot.
The visitors from the Cape Winelands pulled one back through Ibraheem Jabaar just after the beginning of the second half.
Meanwhile, Chippa United were held to a 1-1 draw by SuperSport United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha.
Ronald Pfumbidzai gave the Chilli Boys the lead from a solo run in the 21st minute and Gamphani Lungu equalised for Matsatsantsa a Pitori 18 minutes before full-time.
