The International Boxing Federation (IBF) officially cancelled the purse bid for the world title fight between champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga and challenger Regie Suganob from the Philippines.
The purse bid was cancelled by the IBF on Tuesday following an agreement, which was reached by the Nontshinga and Suganob camps on Wednesday last week. The cancellation of the purse bid was communicated to both camps by Jeanette Salazar, IBF public relations director, on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old Nontshinga will be making the first defence of his IBF junior-flyweight title against Suganob in East London on Friday, 16 June. Nontshinga from East London won the title by a split decision during his fight against Mexican Hector Flores in Hermosillo, Mexico, in September last year while Suganob earned the right to challenge for the crown after he beat his compatriot Mark Mendoza Vicelles in February this year.
