It’s going to be a very small team when East London boxer Ayanda Ndulani travels to Mexico for a very important date with Mexican pugilist Luis ‘Fletchita’ Castillo next week.

Ndulani is scheduled to leave South Africa only with his trainer Kholisile ‘KC’ Cengani when he travels to Mexico to fight against Castillo in a World Boxing Council (WBC) minimumweight elimination bout in Cancun on Friday, 19 May (Saturday, 20 May, South African time).

“It’s only me and my trainer who are travelling to Mexico. We tried to get another ticket, but our efforts failed,” Scenery Park-based Ndulani revealed.

Despite having to travel with Cengani only, the reigning International Boxing Organisation (IBO) minimumweight champion, who’s finalising his preparations at Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan’s Hot Box Gym, is confident of returning home with a positive result.

“I want to go there and win. I know it’s not going to be easy fighting away from home, especially in my opponent’s home country,” the 31-year-old Ndulani said.

The winner of the Ndulani-Castillo bout is going to be the mandatory challenger to the WBC minimumweight title, which is currently held by Thailand’s Panya Pradabsri, who is also known as Petchmanee CP Freshmart.
