Eastern Cape-based Premiership club Chippa United’s three-year sponsorship deal with the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is going to come to an end next month.
This was confirmed by the Bay Metro’s member of mayoral committee for sport, recreation, arts and culture Mcebisi ‘Bassie’ Kamana, who added that the council is going to discuss whether to renew the Chilli Boys sponsorship or not.
The Chilli Boys and the Bay Metro signed a three-year contract in 2020 where the Gqeberha-based club received a R6 million sponsorship per annum. They also received additional R7 million anchor tenant fees as well as R500 000 a year for marketing.
“Our three-year contract with Chippa United is expiring at the end of the current financial year. We are going to review it before the next financial year, which starts in July. That’s all I’m prepared to say,” Kamana, a former professional boxer, said.
Currently, the Chilli Boys are fighting hard to keep their Premiership status as they are placed 15th on the log with 29 points from 28 matches. They are left with two matches before the end of the season.
They face TS Galaxy away at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit this coming Saturday and Lamontville Golden Arrows at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha a week later.
