The seriousness with which Colin ‘Nomakanjani’ Nathan takes Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga’s upcoming fight has resulted in him making sure that he misses some of his very important engagements.
Already, the Johannesburg-based boxing trainer and Nontshinga have started analysing Regie Suganob’s videos as they continue with their preparations for the Friday, 16 June title defence. The unbeaten Nontshinga is going to defend his International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight title for the first time when he meets Suganob from the Philippines.
“I’m going to Belfast next week for Ludumo Lamati’s fight. Lamati and Phumzile Matyhila are leaving for Belfast this coming weekend and I will join them a few days later. Straight away after the fight, I will come back home and focus on Nontshinga’s preparations,” Nathan said.
The 24-year-old Nontshinga from East London won the IBF belt after he scored a split decision victory over previously unbeaten Mexican boxer Hector Flores in Hermosillo, Mexico, in September last year.
“I’m taking this fight very, very serious. I have already started working through the tapes and formulated a game plan,” the award-winning Nathan remarked.
The 25-year-old unbeaten Suganob from Bohol in the Philippines earned the right to challenge Nontshinga after he defeated his Filipino countryman Mark Mendoza Vicelles in an elimination bout in February this year.
