With his career as a professional boxer over, retired former South African flyweight champion Makazole ‘Professor’ Tete has embarked on developing his love for music.
And after obtaining a sports management diploma from the Cape Technikon (now called Cape Peninsula University of Technology) many years ago, Tete has now added yet another qualification, a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Fort Hare (UFH).
“I have just graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Fort Hare. I really love music thus I decided to go obtain a degree. I’m the choirmaster at East London Chorus and we were provincial champions last year,” Tete revealed.
Despite taking another route in his life, Mdantsane-born Tete, a former IBF Intercontinental and IBF Africa junior-bantamweight titlist, has not turned his back on the fistic sport.
Apart from being a choirmaster, the 37-year-old Tete, who is the elder brother to former IBF junior-bantamweight and World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bantamweight champion Zolani ‘Last Born’ Tete, still trains boxers at All Winners Boxing Club in Mdantsane.
And one of his boxers is former national champion Siyakholwa Kuse, who is going to challenge reigning South African minimumweight titlist Bangile Nyangani in a rematch.
“My love for music has not stopped me from continuing to train boxers. And to prove that, one of my boxers Kuse is going to challenge Bangani and I’m going to be in his corner,” Tete remarked.
