The South African Football Association (SAFA) and Stadium Management have confirmed that Bafana Bafana’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Morocco scheduled for Saturday, 17 June is going to be played at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
This confirmation followed after Tuesday’s meeting between SAFA chief executive officer Lydia Monyepao, the association’s chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and Stadium Management CEO Bertie Grobbelaar. The meeting came after it was reported that there was uncertainty regarding the match being played at the FNB Stadium as SAFA owed Stadium Management money.
“All financial matters between SAFA and Stadium Management have been resolved and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between Bafana Bafana and Morocco will go ahead at FNB Stadium on 17 June 2023,” Grobbelaar said after the meeting.
Monyepao said: “This was an incredibly cordial engagement between two long-time partners and I am happy that our meeting was conducted in such a warm spirit. We are happy that all the issues have been resolved.”
Meanwhile, both Bafana and Morocco have already qualified for the next AFCON tournament, which is going to be hosted by Ivory Coast from 13 January to 11 February.
