Mamelodi Sundowns’ Teboho Mokoena was the biggest winner at the Premier Soccer League (PSL) end of season awards on Sunday evening.
Mokoena won the PSL Footballer of the Season and the Midfielder of the Season awards. He beat his teammate Ronwen Williams and Orlando Pirates’ Monnapule Saleng to the Footballer of the Season award. He pipped his teammate Themba Zwane and Saleng to the Midfielder of the Season gong.
Pirates’ Saleng, 25, walked away with the DStv Players’ Player of the Season and the MTN8 Last Man Standing awards.
After making history by keeping 18 clean sheets, Williams won the DStv Premiership Goalkeeper of the Season award ahead of Salim Magoola from Richards Bay FC and SuperSport United’s Ricardo Goss.
As expected, after leading the Brazilians to their sixth championship title, Sundowns mentor Rulani Mokwena bagged the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award beating Jose Riveiro from Pirates and SuperSport’s Gavin Hunt.
On the other hand, Iqraam Rayners from Stellenbosch FC won the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament while his teammate Olwethu Makhanya walked away with the Nedbank Cup Most Promising Player award.
Rayners beat Miguel Timm from Pirates and Sekhukhune United’s Edwin Gyimah to the award. Makhanya won the award ahead of his teammate Devin Titus and Sphamandla Gumede from Gauteng amateur side Dondol Stars.
Meanwhile, the PSL Chairman’s Award went to Peter ‘Squire’ Mancer and Alex ‘Goldfinger’ Shakoane, who are both late. Mancer was the PSL’s marketing guru while Shakoane was a long time Sundowns official.
