Premier Soccer League (PSL) general manager Ace Ncobo has used his Facebook page to clear the confusion regarding some of the categories in the PSL end of season awards.
Social media has been flooded with different opinions, especially in regards to the DStv Premiership Coach of the Season award, where some believe Rulani Mokwena deserves the gong after leading Mamelodi Sundowns to championship glory.
On the other hand, some argue that Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has done enough to claim the award after the Spaniard guided the Buccaneers to a double.
“I’ve seen that there has been a raging debate on the PSL Awards that are taking place tonight on both SuperSport and SABC, and I thought I should provide clarity. There are only two categories that cut across the various competitions. It’s the Match Officials Awards and Footballer of the Season, based on overall performance across all the competitions, including the league,” Ncobo said.
“All other categories are competition-specific. For coaches, there is only one category, the Dstv Coach of the Season. Judging is based purely on results and tactics in the DStv Premiership and not any other competition.”
The former international referee added that people should focus only on a specific competition under which the category is located when they are discussing the awards.
