Hospitalised former South African and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight champion Ludumo Lamati is recovering well at a hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
The piece of good news about Lamati beginning to recover was confirmed by Boxing5 Promotions on Monday afternoon.
“Our champion is making progress everyday and has started eating. We await further details from the doctors if he will be moved to a new ward with the progress he has made. We cannot thank everyone enough for the kind messages and prayers,” a Boxing5 Promotions statement said.
Lamati was hospitalised after he collapsed in his corner following a 12th round stoppage loss to Englishman Nick Ball in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title fight at the SSE Arena nine days ago.
The loss Ball was the 31-year-old Mdantsane-born Lamati’s first defeat in 23 fights. His record now reads 21 wins, a defeat and one draw.
