Following the disappointment of having his fight against Ladarius ‘Memphis’ Miller from the United States in the Bahamas being cancelled last month, Xolisani ‘Nomeva’ Ndongeni has just signed a contract to face off against American boxer Ernesto de Jesus Mercado in Nicaragua next month.
This 10 rounds bout between the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and South African lightweight champion and unbeaten Mercado is scheduled for Saturday, 8 July.
“We’ve got another fight coming up in Nicaragua next month. You will remember that last month’s fight fell through. Nomeva had been working here with me preparing for that fight only for it to be cancelled. He will be back here before the end of this week so that we can prepare for the Nicaragua fight,” Ndongeni’s trainer Mzamo ‘Chief’ Njekanye revealed.
The 21-year-old Mercado from Pomona in California, US, has won all his 10 fights with stoppages. Mercado stopped Henry Lundy in a North American Boxing Association junior-featherweight title contest in April this year while KwaBhaca-born Ndongeni’s last fight was a stoppage win over Thai boxer Apinun Khongsong.
