The camp of world title contender Regie Suganob from the Philippines is not happy with the postponement of his fight against reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior-flyweight champion Sivenathi ‘Special One’ Nontshinga.
The two unbeaten protagonists were initially scheduled to face off at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) on Friday next week. However, the fight has been postponed to Sunday, 2 July at the same venue owing to television schedules.
“We are not happy with the postponement. It was just communicated on Wednesday after our constant requests for updates on the fight,” Suganob’s promoter and manager Floriezly Podot said.
Podot, who is the boss at PMI Bohol Boxing Promotions in the Philippines, believes that the postponement is not good for both Suganob and Nontshinga.
“I think both boxers are not happy with the postponement considering the original date is already near. The boxers are almost in their final stretch of their preparations,” Podot added.
This is going to be Nontshinga’s first defence of his crown since he won the title when he defeated Mexican boxer Hector Flores by a split decision in Hermosillo, Mexico, in September last year.
