Lunga ‘Pressure Cooker’ Sitemela, who is based in Cape Town, is happy after he became the new World Boxing Federation (WBF) junior-lightweight champion on Friday evening.
Sitemela, born in Dordrecht in the Eastern Cape 31 years ago, won the WBF title after his opponent Steve Bagwasi dislocated his left shoulder in the third round during their clash at the Grand Palm Hotel and Casino Convention Centre in Gaborone, Botswana.
“I’m very, very happy. It’s a pity that my opponent dislocated his shoulder. This is the third straight win I have achieved after my opponent had had an injury. However, I’m happy with the victory. I got what I wanted even though I would have loved to to finish the 12 rounds,” Sitemela, who is going to land at the Cape Town International Airport on Saturday evening, said.
Bagwasi, who was born in Mahalapye, Botswana, was attempting to make the first defence of the title he won when he defeated Tanzanian Saidi Chino in August last year.
Meanwhile, Sitemela has continued to put Dordrecht on the boxing map as he won the South African junior-lightweight title in May last year and added the WBF crown on Friday.
