Eastern Cape Premier Division side Chippa United will continue to be funded by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality to the tune of R13,5 million per annum in the next three years.
The Chilli Boys finished 14th on the DStv Premiership standings this past term and their survival in top flight football was confirmed after they drew goalless with Lamontville Golden Arrows in their last match of the season.
“We have a 20-year partnership with the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro. The funding gets reviewed after every three years,” Chilli Boys chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi said.
Bay Metro’s member of mayoral committee for sport, recreation, arts and culture Mcebisi ‘Bassie’ Kamana told Ink Sport last month that they were going to discuss their continued funding of the Chilli Boys
The Chilli Boys and the Bay Metro signed a three-year contract in 2020 where the Gqeberha-based club received a R6 million sponsorship per annum. They also received an additional R7 million anchor tenant fees as well as R500 000 a year for marketing.
