South African boxer Ludumo Lamati is making positive progress at a hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland, after his admission following his loss to Briton Nick Ball last month.

Lamati was rushed to hospital after he collapsed in his corner following his 12th round stoppage defeat by Ball in a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title at the SSE Arena in Belfast.

The former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) and South African junior-featherweight champion’s mom Joyce and girlfriend Chay Chadhay have since flown to Belfast to be on his bedside.

“After being moved from the ICU ward to the neurologists ward, our champion is showing positive signs daily. The team has flown over with his mom and girlfriend and regular visits have brought a smile to his face. There is still recovery to be done so each day of rest is needed. Your prayers and positive comments have meant a great deal,” a statement from Boxing5 Promotions said on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, the loss against Ball was the 31-year-old Mdantsane-born Lamati’s first defeat in 23 fights.
