Yesteryear football heroes joined family, friends and administrators to remember former Bafana Bafana coach Clive ‘The Dog’ Barker at a memorial service held at the Olive Convention Centre in Durban on Thursday.
Barker passed away at a Durban hospital last Saturday after suffering from Lewy Body Dementia (LBD). He was 78 years old.
Barker is best remembered for guiding Bafana to Africa Cup of Nations glory in South Africa in 1996. Mark Williams scored a brace as Bafana defeated Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles 2-0 in the final played at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg.
He was the first coach to win back-to-back league titles when he led the now-defunct Durban City to glory during the 1982 and 1983 seasons.
