Zambia’s Chipolopolo qualified for their first Africa Cup of Nations tournament in eight years after they walloped the Elephants of Ivory Coast 3-0 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zambia, on Saturday afternoon.
Things started to go wrong for the Elephants when Serge Aurier, who was under pressure from Fashion Sakala, scored an own goal to give Chipolopolo a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute.
After leading by an odd goal at half-time, the Zambians started the second stanza brightly and their efforts were rewarded when Leicester City forward Patson Daka made it 2-0 in the 47th minute.
Leading 2-0 seemed to spur the Zambians on as they added a third goal through Red Star Belgrade’s Klings Kangwa in the 54th minute to book a place in next year’s AFCON finals in Ivory Coast between January and February.
