Africa’s most successful football coach Pitso Mosimane is grateful to his son for planting the seeds of starting the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools.

Mosimane revealed this while he was launching the Pitso Mosimane Soccer Schools at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, on Saturday.

“My son plays basketball, but one day he asked me what I intend doing regarding grassroots development in football,” the former Al Ahli, Al Ahly and Mamelodi Sundowns mentor said.

“I have travelled the world and was fortunate to work with different coaches around the world. I looked at how the Germans, Spaniards and Americans do it when it comes to football development in their countries. In Germany I was advised on how the likes of Toni Kroos, (Mesut) Ozil were developed. The USA has a professional structure, hence they are leading in women football. Spain clubs are technically advanced and their development programmes are visible at big clubs like FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, hence they do well on the international stage. We have to start somewhere and that’s the reason we have started with the likes of Curro School as they have the facilities and that is where this project starts.”

Meanwhile, Mosimane made it clear that he would take up the challenge should Kaizer Chiefs chairman Kaizer Motaung ask him to go coach Amakhosi.

“I like projects and if the project is right, I will take that call. If Mr Motaung called or anyone calls I will take that call and if the project is good, I will consider. A coach is a coach with the tools he uses. A coach must be given the right tools, the platform and chance. Give me the tools and I will come with a report,” Mosimane said.
