Ayanda ‘Greyhound’ Nkosi failed to live up to his pre-fight talk as he lost to South African lightweight champion Khaya Busakwe at the Meropa Casino in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Friday evening.
Busakwe defeated Nkosi by a split decision to make a first successful defence of his South African title. This was the second time in 14 fights that Busakwe’s fight finished the scheduled rounds.
Busakwe won the SA title after he stopped then champion Lusanda Komanisi in the third round at the Orient Theatre in East London in March. Fight referee Siphiwo Mbini counted Komanisi out after he dislocated his shoulder.
Soweto-born Busakwe has now stretched his record to 10 wins (nine stoppages), three losses and a draw while Nkosi from Katlehong in Ekurhuleni dropped to 15 victories (nine knockouts) and two losses.
Meanwhile, Junior Makondo won the World Boxing Federation (WBF) Intercontinental junior-middleweight title after he outpointed Jacques Muvuud from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
