South African Boxing Awards nominees from the Eastern Cape are flying to Durban for Friday’s ceremony, which is going to be held at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC).
Initially, there was uncertainty around the Eastern Cape nominees’ presence at the shindig after the provincial Department of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture (DSRAC) declined to assist with flight and accommodation expenses as per a request from Boxing South Africa (BSA).
“All our nominees from the Eastern Cape will make it to the event despite the department of sport in the Eastern Cape having failed to assist us,” acting BSA chief executive officer Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole said on Wednesday.
Ink Sport can confirm that all Eastern Cape-based nominees from East London and Gqeberha are going to fly to Durban with some leaving on Thursday while others are set to leave on Friday.
