Not a single television channel is going to show the South African Boxing Awards ceremony, which is going to be held at the Inkosi Albert International Conference Centre (ICC) in Durban on Friday.

Acting Boxing South Africa (BSA) chief executive officer Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole revealed to Ink Sport that the ceremony is only going to be recorded and then shown on SuperSport at a later stage.

Sithole made it clear that the boxing regulatory body’s memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the SABC is silent on which broadcaster must show events like the awards ceremony.

“The MoU does not include the coverage of events. Basically, the SABC is technically challenged in terms of finances. The costs of showing the awards are high. SuperSport will come as a delayed broadcast. The awards ceremony might be broadcast on Sunday after Nontshinga’s fight, that’s the arrangement. The SABC will broadcast at a later stage,” Sithole revealed.

Meanwhile, nominees for the South African Boxing Awards started arriving in Durban on Thursday morning.
