Failure to persuade the agent representing Pinoy boxer Lito Dante to let him travel to East London for a fight against Nhlanhla ‘Mount Kilimanjaro’ Tyirha this coming Sunday has resulted in tournament organisers Rumble Africa Promotions (RAP) scrambling around in search of a new opponent.
And the organisers were lucky enough as they secured Malawian George Kandulo for the eight rounds bout, which is going to be held at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC).
Initially, Tyirha was scheduled to fight against Filipino boxer Miel Fajardo, who was changed after it was realised that he could be too much for the former South African junior-flyweight champion.
The tournament organisers then engaged Lito Dante and even sent plane tickets to him and his team. However, Fajardo’s agent, who also represents Dante, refused to let the Filipino boxer travel to South Africa for Sunday’s fight until Fajardo had been paid his 10 percent cut from the initially agreed purse.
Meanwhile, Kandulo goes into Sunday’s fight on the back of a technical knockout win over Siphelele Myeza three months ago.
This is Kandulo’s first visit to the ICC since his loss to former South African minimumweight and junior-flyweight champion Siphamandla Baleni in July last year.
