Just exactly as Ink Sport reported on Friday, Sharadene Fortuin and Melissa Miller are set to meet for the fifth time since 2014 when they clash in Durban next month.
The two boxers meet yet again following their fourth fight held at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC) last Sunday, which was declared a draw three days after it was discovered that Eastern Cape Boxing South Africa (BSA) manager Phakamile Jacobs had erred while tallying the score cards.
Initially, Miller from Eldorado Park in Johannesburg was declared the winner by a split decision on Sunday until it merged that Lulama Mtya’s was 95-95 instead of the 95-94 announced on Sunday.
At a meeting, which was attended by acting BSA chief executive officer Erick Nsikayezwe Sithole, Fortuin’s manager Lonwabo Witbooi and Lucky Ramagole, who represented Miller, in Durban on Saturday, it was decided that the two boxers will fight for the SA title for the fourth time in two years.
“We have reached a compromise. I’m happy from my side as Sharadene is keeping her belt. This compromise makes good financial sense for Sharadene. We don’t have a problem in defending against Miller,” Witbooi said.
Ramagole said: “I told them that Miller wants to be a champion. We are not afraid of the girl provided they meet our demands.”
Meanwhile, it was also the second time that Jacobs had messed up in regards to an outcome of a fight as he declared Phumelela Cafu as the winner when he challenged current SA flyweight champion Jackson Chauke in March last year.
This was so despite the score cards clearly showing that there was no winner as Cafu had won on only one score card and two judges scored the fight as a draw.
