The worst is over now and South African boxer Ludumo Lamati is finally out of hospital after spending more than a month under Irish doctors’ watchful eyes.
Lamati was rushed to hospital after he collapsed in his corner following a 12th round stoppage loss to Briton Nick Ball during a World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver featherweight title fight at the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, in May.
That was the the 31-year-old Mdantsane boxer’s first defeat in 23 fights. Lamati has won 21 fights with 11 of those wins coming from stoppages while his other fight ended in a draw.
The former South African and International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight champion is expected to return to South Africa this week now that he has been discharged from hospital.
