A clearer picture has emerged regarding current South African female cruiserweight champion Razell Mohamed’s next fight, which is going to be a world title contest.
Dean Lonergan’s D & L Events, the organisers of 34-year-old Mohamed’s fight against current International Boxing Federation (IBF) female heavyweight champion Te Arani Moarana ‘Lani’ Daniels, finally announced the bout in New Zealand on Wednesday.
Mohamed, who works as a school teacher in Kariega, clashes with Daniels at the Eventfinda Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday, 26 August. And should Mohamed win, then she will have to face Daniels again as per the rematch clause.
Popularly known by the moniker ‘The Smiling Assassin’, the 35-year-old Daniels won the world title after she beat her compatriot Alrie Meleisea at the Eventfinda Stadium in May.
Rated number three by the IBF, the unbeaten Mohamed, who has won three fights and drawn twice, will become the first South African female boxer to fight for a world heavyweight title.
On the other hand, Daniels is a former New Zealand light-heavyweight and Australasian heavyweight champion, who has eight victories, two defeats and two draws.
Meanwhile, IBF Africa female bantamweight champion Ellen Simwaka from Lilongwe, Malawi, has a date with New Zealander Mea Motu in the same Daniels-Mohamed bill.
Auckland-based Motu will be defending her International Boxing Organisation (IBO) female junior-featherweight title against Simwaka.
The 33-year-old Motu has 16 wins with six stoppages while Simwaka, 26, has registered 12 victories (eight knockouts), six defeats and two draws.
