That Ellen ‘Tigress’ Simwaka is over the moon following the confirmation of her world title fight against Mea Motu is an understatement as the Malawian is hard at work preparing to meet the New Zealander.
IBF Africa female bantamweight champion Simwaka from Lilongwe, Malawi, challenges Motu for her International Boxing Organisation (IBO) female junior-featherweight title at the Eventfinda Stadium in Auckland, New Zealand, on Saturday, 26 August.
“I’m very excited. This is very good news to me. This is a world stage now,” the excited 26-year-old Malawian said.
Simwaka, who is rated 12th in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) female bantamweight division, has admitted that Motu is a closed book to her.
“I don’t know much about her except that she fought against my last opponent. I’m just preparing for her and am working hard at the gym,” Simwaka, who lost on points to Iranian boxer Nastaran Fathi in May, said.
The 33-year-old Motu has won all her 16 fights with six of those wins coming from stoppages while Simwaka has registered 12 victories (eight knockouts), six defeats and two draws.
