Switzerland opened the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup with a 2-0 win over Philippines in a Group A encounter at the Forsyth Bar Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand, on Friday.
The Swiss goals came from Ramona Bachmann’s penalty on the stroke of half-time and Serana Piubel’s strike in the 64th minute.
It was a bad start for the Filipinos in their very first World Cup tournament even though they tried their best.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s Super Falcons drew goalless with Canada in a Group B match at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium.
