The United States women’s team got the defence of their FIFA World Cup crown off to a good start defeating Vietnam 3-0 in a Group E match played at Eden Park, Auckland, New Zealand on Saturday.
Sophia Smith gave the four-time World Cup winners the lead as she opened the scoring in the 14th minute. The 22-year-old Smith doubled the Americans’ lead after she completed her brace on the stroke of half-time.
After coming close a number of times, Lindsey Horan finally found the back of the net making it 3-0 in the 77th minute.
