Ary Borges became the first player from Brazil to score a hattrick at the World Cup finals as she helped the Brazilians wallop debutants Panama 4-0 in their Group F opener at the Cooper’s Stadium in Adelaide, Australia, on Monday.
After trying a number of times, the Brazilians finally found the back of the net with Borges’ header following a cross from Adriana in the 19th minute. Borges made it 2-0 after he netted from Tamires’ cross six minutes before the half-time break.
Borges turned provider when she laid the ball for Bia Zaneratto to score Brazil’s third goal three minutes into the second half. Borges completed her hattrick with a header in the 70th minute.
Meanwhile, Germany proved too good for Morocco as they hammered the North Africans 6-0 in a Group H match at the Melbourne Rectangular Stadium earlier.
Alexandra Popp netted a brace with the other goals coming from Klara Bühl, Hanane El Haj own goal, Zineb Redouani own goal and Lea Schuller’s strike.
