It was a historic moment for the Philippines as they beat 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup co-hosts New Zealand 1-0 in a Group A match at the Wellington Regional Stadium on Tuesday.
The all-important goal, which gave the Filipinos victory, came when Sarina Bolden headed home from Angela Beard’s free kick in the 24th minute. This was the first time ever that the Filipinos scored a World Cup goal.
Meanwhile, Colombia defeated Korea Republic 2-0 with goals from Catalina Usme and Linda Caicedo in an earlier match.
