It was joy and pain as Stellenbosch FC opened the season with a 1-0 win over favourites Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership match at the Danie Craven Stadium in the Cape Winelands on Saturday evening.
The Maroons’ goal came after Antonio van Wyk beat Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine three minutes before half-time.
It was expected that the Buccaneers would emerge victorious from the match. However, it was never to be as Stellies frustrated them throuught the encounter.
Meanwhile, Royal AM and AmaZulu drew goalless in an earlier match played at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg.
