Netherlands are going to play against Spain in the quarter-finals of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup next Friday after the Dutch defeated Banyana Banyana 2-0 in front of 40 233 fans at the Sydney Football Stadium in Australia on Sunday.

The Dutch went ahead through Jill Roordt’s header off Danielle van de Donk’s flick on following Sherida Spitse’s corner in the ninth minute. That was the Manchester City midfielder’s fourth goal of the tournament.

Banyana were forced to make a substitution as an injured Jermaine Seoposenwe made way for Wendy Shongwe on the half hour mark.

The South Africans were again forced to make another change with injured Bambanani Mbane being substituted by Tiisetso Makhubela three minutes before interval.

The Dutch increased their lead when Lineth Beerensteyn netted in the 68th minute courtesy of Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart’s poor handling of the ball. That was Beerensteyn’s first goal for the Dutch in just over a year.
