Nozwelethu Mathontsi stretched her nine-year reign as a national female champion after she defeated challenger Owethu Rula from Gqeberha at the Orient Theatre in East London on Friday evening.
Mathontsi from Mdantsane outpointed Rula to make a successful third defence of her South African female junior-flyweight title.
On the other hand, Asandiswa Nxokwana became the new Eastern Cape female bantamweight champion after she defeated Babalwa Nonqonqotho on points.
