Veteran boxer Bongani ‘Wonderboy’ Mahlangu is spending no sleepless nights as he’s preparing for his South African title defence against Luthando Mbumbulwana.

Mahlangu, who will celebrate his 44th birthday in October, faces Mbumbulwana in an SA junior-featherweight title contest at Vodaworld, Midrand, on Saturday, 30 September.

“I will be fighting against Mbumbulwana from the Eastern Cape on the 30th. I must admit that I haven’t watched him fighting in a long time,” the Boipatong-born southpaw said.

“The last time I saw him fighting was when he fought against the late Mfusi Maxhayi in 2015. I then went on to fight against Maxhayi. Be that as it may, I don’t see Mbumbulwana as a dangerous opponent. He doesn’t scare at all.”

Mahlangu, a 2004 Olympian, has done very well against opponents from the Eastern Cape except for losses to former SA junior-featherweight champion Ludumo Lamati and erstwhile national junior-flyweight titlist Vuyisile Bebe.
