Being soundly beaten by Siyakholwa Kuse didn’t only result in Bangile Nyangani losing his South African minimumweight title, he also lost a lot in as far as world ratings are concerned.
Nyangani from Bityi in Mthatha went into the July fight against Kuse highly rated in all four major world boxing bodies. He was rated seventh by the World Boxing Council (WBC), fourth on the World Boxing Association (WBA) ratings, 10th in the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and 11th by the World Boxing Organisation (WBO).
Nyangani, who is trained by Alan Toweel, has unfortunately dropped out of the top 15 in the WBA, IBF and WBO while he’s now 13th on the WBC ratings.
“His loss to Kuse doesn’t bother us at all. He wasn’t there that night, that’s the reality. His mind was somewhere else. We took the loss on the chin. I believe that Bangile can go a long, long way,” Toweel said.
The loss to Kuse was Nyangani’s second career defeat and his first since he lost to Siphamandla Baleni in an SA minimumweight title fight in July 2017. Interestingly, Nyangani suffered his two losses at the East London International Convention Centre (ICC).
