Following the controversy around her last fight against Melissa Miller, which was declared a loss and then changed to a draw three days later, Sharadene Fortuin is now looking forward to a better performance in her next assignment.
The reigning South African female bantamweight champion has a point to prove as she clashes with Alice Mbewe in an eight rounds bout at the Meropa Casino in Polokwane on Friday, 29 September.
“I have seen her record, it’s good. But I don’t think she’s gonna give me problems. I have to do well in this fight and prove people wrong, especially after what happened in my last fight. I really don’t want that to happen again,” Fortuin said.
Mbewe from Lusaka in Zambia has not fought since her loss to Tanzanian opponent Zulfa Macho in Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania, in November 2020. With only six fights under her belt and ring rust, Mbewe shouldn’t be a problem to Fortuin, who was born in Seymour, Eastern Cape.
