Khangelani Jack and Thembelani ‘Shakes’ Hlombe have insisted that their separation was on mutual consent after the Trainer of the Year award winner turned his back on Paradise Boxing Club in Nxarhuni and relocated to Benoni.
Jack was the chief trainer at Paradise Boxing Club training the likes of South African featherweight champion Zolisa Batyi, Nhlanhla Tyirha, Siphamandla Baleni and SA junior-featherweight title contender Luthando Mbumbulwana just to mention a few.
“I just felt like relocating, there’s nothing else. I didn’t leave the Eastern Cape because I have fought with anyone. I just felt that I should go work outside my province,” Jack said.
The 34-year-old Jack has now been appointed as trainer at Chantal Brown’s Rock Solid Boxing and Fitness Gym in Benoni, Ekurhuleni, where he is set to train the likes of Prichard Dube,Chris Golding and Clement Pilusa.
Hlombe, who is the manager at Paradise Boxing Club, said: “He left on Saturday last week after he told us that he wanted to go work in Jozi. We didn’t have a problem with that as he also said that we can continue working together even if he’s working that side.”
Meanwhile, Hlombe revealed that 42-year-old former world champion Simphiwe ‘V12’ Vetyeka is the new chief trainer at Paradise Boxing Club.
Vetyeka was an accomplished boxer having won the SA bantamweight, International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight, IBO and World Boxing Association (WBA) featherweight titles.
