Former South African lightweight champion Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai and his trainer Warren Hulley are going to fly out of South Africa for Russia on Monday.

The 38-year-old Munyai is scheduled to face off against unbeaten Russian opponent Emir Basirov in a 10 rounds junior-welterweight bout at the Sports Palace Yubileiny in Almetyevsk, Russia, on Saturday.

Munyai from Makwarela, Limpopo, will be fighting for the first time since his second round victory over Malawian Crispin Moliat in December last year.

This will also be the first fight for the former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior-featherweight titlist since he moved from Alan Toweel and returned to Hulley this year.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old Basirov is set to go to the Munyai bout on the back of a second round knockout victory over Venezuelan Esneiker Jesus Correa Pinto in June.

Basirov will be fighting against a South African boxer for the third time having beaten Gift Bholo in March and Rofhiwa Maemu in September last year.

The Nizhnekamsk-based Basirov stopped Bholo in the fifth round at the USC Soviet Wings, Moscow, and his fight against Maemu ended in the second round at the Vegas City Hall in Krasnogorsk.

Munyai takes a professional record of 36 victories (21 knockouts), seven losses and a draw to the fight. On the other hand, Basirov has stopped eight of his nine victims.
