Mamelodi Sundowns continued with their brilliant start to the season after they beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 in a DStv Premiership encounter at a packed Orlando Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday evening.
Lucas Ribeiro Costa, who is in his first season at Sundowns, scored from the penalty spot in the 12th minute. This was the Brazilian’s fifth goal of the season.
Match referee Masixole Bambiso awarded the Brazilians the penalty after Buccaners debutant Siphelo Baloni had fouled Sundowns captain Themba Zwane inside the box.
The unbeaten Tshwane giants remain on top of the Premiership standings as they have won their opening seven matches.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United defeated Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 through Terrence Dzvukamanja’s goal at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
