Star Sharks centre Lukhanyo Am has been called up to the Springboks squad to take the place of winger Makazole Mapimpi, who got injured during the Boks’ match against Tonga in a 2023 Rugby World Cup match in Marseille, France, on Sunday evening.
SA Rugby director of rugby Rassie Erasmus confirmed on Monday that Mapimpi had suffered a fractured eye-socket and blowout fracture to his cheekbone.
The 29-year-old Am now replaces Mapimpi, who is going to spend between four and six weeks on the sidelines.
