Mzuvukile ‘Old Bones’ Magwaza is set to leave for Mexico next week where he’s scheduled to fight against Mexican boxer Bryan Mercado Vazquez.
The former World Boxing Federation (WBF) bantamweight champion clashes with the 27-year-old Mexican in a 10 rounds international bout on Friday, 20 October.
“I can confirm that I’m going to Mexico next week. I will be fighting against Bryan Mercado on the 20th of this month,” Magwaza said.
Magwaza has fought three times – winning twice and losing once – since he made a return after thugs shot him in the leg during a robbery at his home in Site C, Khayelitsha, early in 2018.
Trained by Michael Mouneime in Cape Town, Magwaza’s most recent wins were stoppages against Sanele Maduna and Nasiphi Mdlangazi. He then suffered a points loss to Sabelo Ngebiyana.
The Duncan Village-born Magwaza has registered 22 victories (13 knockouts) one defeat and three draws.
Vazquez, who has a professional record of 26 wins (21 stoppages) and a loss, won by stoppages in seven of his last 10 wins.
