Rising star Siseko Teyise is not going to be thrown to the wolves and his development in the paid ranks is going to be gradual, so says his trainer Zolile ‘Gqo’ Mahambi.
So far Teyise has had a seamless transition from the amateur ranks to the professional scene and his two knockout wins bear testimony to that.
“I don’t want him to sign with any promoter at the moment. I’m still building Teyise, he’s still a kid. He’s only 19 years old and I don’t want to rush him. No unnecessary battles for my boxer,” Mahambi said.
“We want to work with different promoters who are willing to give my boxer a chance to fight. I would like promoters to give him fights as a free agent. There are promoters who want to sign him. I don’t want a promoter who will go behind my back and engage with the boxer.”
Teyise entered the professional ranks having had an impressive amateur pedigree and Mahambi wants to make sure that everything goes well with the boy.
“Teyise is still young and is the future of South African boxing. I don’t want a situation where my boxer takes short cuts. I want him to go through all the stages. He’s still more like an amateur boxer now,” Mahambi remarked.
