Preparing for a closed book still remains one of the most difficult and challenging tasks for any boxer, especially when a pugilist is preparing for a title contest.
This is the same situation that Mapule Ngubane found herself in as she’s finalising her preparations for Sunday’s fight against Kenyan boxer Charity Mukami.
The 35-year-old Ngubane meets the Nairobi resident in a World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African female middleweight title fight at The Ridge Casino in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.
“I have to admit that I don’t know her except that she’s a boxer from Kenya. It’s really not easy to prepare for such an opponent. However, I’m lucky to have a team that has done its homework on her. I’m going there at least knowing what I should do,” Ngubane said.
With a professional record of 11 victories, eight losses and three draws, Ngubane goes to the Mukami bout following a successful South African female middleweight title defence against Rushda Mallick in Durban two months ago.
On the other hand, Mukami, a one time World Boxing Council (WBC) female middleweight title contender, has won five times, lost thrice and drawn once.
