Former Banyana Banyana captain Janine van Wyk is set to retire from international football after the senior women’s national team had faced the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) later this month.
Van Wyk is going to be part of the Banyana squad when they play back-to-back 2024 CAF Women’s Olympic qualifiers against the DRC both away and at home.
The 36-year-old Van Wyk, a member of the Banyana squad which won the 2022 African Women’s Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco, will become the most capped player – male or female in African football history with 185 caps after the two upcoming matches.
Banyana face the Congolese away on Wednesday next week and then play against them here at home a few days later.
