Mamelodi Sundowns cruised to a 2-0 away win over Petro de Luanda in an African Football League first leg match played at Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda, Angola, on Saturday evening.
The Angolans were the better side in the first half as they dominated their opponents, but failed to score. They even failed to convert a penalty, which was saved by Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams from Gilberto’s boot in the 42nd minute.
The Tshwane giants came back from the break with more vigour and they saw their efforts being rewarded with a goal from Marcelo Allende in the 68th minute.
Second half substitute Thapelo Maseko, who had only been on the field for a few minutes, made it 2-0 nine minutes from full-time.
