With more than three decades’ experience in the fistic scene, veteran ring official Siya Vabaza-Booi is going to assume a new role after she was appointed as a World Boxing Federation (WBF) fight supervisor.
Vabaza-Booi, who’s been a ring official for 34 years, was due to have had her first fight as a supervisor this coming weekend, however, the tournament she was going to work in has since been slated for a later date.
“Yes, it’s true that I have been appointed as a WBF fight supervisor. I was due to have had my first fight in Bloemfontein this weekend, but the tournament has since been postponed,” the two-time Female Ring Official of the Year award winner, said.
That she has been appointed as a WBF supervisor does not mean that the award-winning East London-born Vabaza-Booi is done with being a ring official.
“I will continue as both a judge and referee,” Vabaza-Booi, who is the aunt of the late former South African flyweight champion Gabula Vabaza, said.
